8:30 AM		PL-1-1 Thin Films on an Atomic Scale H. Oechsner (University of Kaiserslautern, Germany) The lecture will demonstrate the present state of the art of chemical and structural characterization of thin films with resolution down to the atomic scale, and report on ultrathin films on surfaces and interfaces including atomic and molecular self organization effects to generate ordered nanostructures. Both areas will be elucidated by examples for already existing technological applications of nanoscaled layer structures, but. new possibilities based , for instance, on atomically controlled texture tailoring or self organizing systems will be addressed as well.
